At some point acceptance of the change must take place if the person with painful disabilities is to move beyond the black hole. Comparisons to the old life only serve to feed the sense of loss. It must be understood that to live life in the face of daily pain is to live with a sense of honor, courage and inner strength. There can be no room for bitterness or resentment. Pain relief is a justified pursuit to be relentlessly sought in partnership with one's physicians. Minimizing pain and living life well is the only reasonable goal.
